Highlights From The 2nd Annual National Film & TV Awards

The 2nd annual National Film & TV Awards South Africa was a night to remember, filled with excitement and incredible talent. Held on 9 November at Pretoria’s State Theatre, the event was filled wit some of the best in South African film, television and digital media.

The night was guided by the charismatic hosts Jordan Kensington, Lesedi Phala, and Nicole Watson from Real Housewives of Johannesburg. Their energy set the perfect tone for a celebration that thrilled the attendee.

Part of the National Film Academy, a global organisation with over 26 years of experience honouring entertainment talent, the National Film & TV Awards has quickly become a highlight in the entertainment industry since its launch in 2023.

The ceremony began on a heartfelt note with a prayer, creating a warm atmosphere of respect and anticipation. This year, a number of 3.7 million votes were cast by South Africans who wanted to support their favourite stars. With such enthusiasm, it’s clear the awards have become a part of the country’s entertainment culture.

The awards honoured some of the most outstanding performances in the industry. Bonko Khoza won Best Actor 2024 for his role in Red Ink, while Nambitha Ben-Mazwi was awarded Best Actress 2024 for her performances in Savage Beauty and Empire. In her acceptance speech, Ben-Mazwi expressed gratitude saying, “This award isn’t just for me; it’s for every actor who has put in the hard work”

Other winners included Zikhona Sodlaka, who took home Best Actress in a TV Series for Gqeberha – The Empire, and Tumi Morake, who won Best Comedian. Devi Sankaree Govender, well-known for her compelling interviews, was awarded Best TV Presenter, while Podcast and Chill by MacG won Best Podcast, a nod to its nationwide impact.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of Trevor Noah as Celebrity Personality of the Year
